What is Psychosexual Therapy?
Psychosexual Therapy is a form of talking therapy which explores a range of issues around intimacy, sex, relationships and sexuality. It doesn’t involve touch, but explores issues through talking.
Sex and sexuality is one part of our individuality which enables us to lead fulfilling and intimate lives, whether we engage in sex or not, or feel any level of desire or not.
Understanding ourselves, our desires, our passions and our internal conflicts is another way to understand our whole selves in more depth.
Societies, cultures, movies, families and friends all provide us with a sexual script - a set of beliefs about how we should be, what we should want and what is and isn’t ok. Sometimes these work in contrast to our true selves and that can cause huge upset within our sense of self.
Psychosexual Therapy aims to assist clients to understand themselves and their wants and needs, and to become your truest self.
Alison works in a safe and confidential space, free from judgement and shame. We work together to explore your issues and desired outcome.
This approach can work with individuals, couples or triads.
Presenting issues
There are a wide range of reasons why someone may seek out psychosexual therapy. Using a sex positive, inclusive and pleasure focussed approach.
Presentations may include; erectile function issues, poor sex education, low libido, couple’s experiencing sexual incongruence, kink, fetish or pain with penetration.
Other issues may relate to sexual trauma, guilt and shame, gender or sexuality and many more.
There is no ‘typical’ presentation or issue for psychosexual therapy.
If you are simply not experiencing sexual intimacy in the way you would like to, that is reason enough to seek out psychosexual therapy.
